Went into my local spesh dealer here in glasgow and was told that it wasnt available in a 31.6 :(. was thinking about a shim but cant get a shim from 30.9-31.6.. so now looks like ive either got to go for a GD or reverb.. not a happy chappy!

Turbo - Post now recieved and fitted.

Had a wee bit of a problem at first due to the smallest of parts - the 10mm wide cable clamp that fits the cable to the post - not being in the box when it arrived and spent a week chasing the shop to send it to me.
Anyway, part arrived this morning and just fitted it now.

So, first impressions.

Out of the box it's a really nice looking bit of kit, understated with clean lines etc. The seat clamping bit is well worked and very easy to adjust with one bolt. The bar mounted lever works well and looks good - personal preference as to whether you have it above the bar on the left or under the bar on the right i suppose.

Surprisingly 'mechanical' feeling in operation, you can really feel the solid 'clunk' as it finds its position which i like, feels like it is solidly built. The return spring is air-powered, at the moment i have it set to the maximum reccommended setting at 40psi. From fully down the return is pretty fast up to the middle setting but rather slow from there back to the top setting, i reckon this is to do with the seals being new and tight and think it will speed up over time, although it's nice not to have it hit you in the balls when it raises to full height!
No noticable lateral play at the moment, feels almost like a normal seatpost so damn good in that respect.

I'll be out on it tomorrow so i'll give you a better review once i've ridden it

Will do Turbo - i'm hoping to recieve it by the end of the week.

The nice chap at Spesh (a Mr Gridley) is sending it to my nearest Concept Store with some warrantied parts and they are shipping it to me free of charge - which is nice. Just waiting for the phone call to confirm they have it and then pay the balance before they ship it.

I'll drop you a mail once i've had a play.

I've been using one on my RIP for a month or so. Very similar to the GD, but a lot prettier and slicker. The lever is nicer too. I was also drawn to the three position set up. Not convinced by infinite adjustability when you're in a hurry.

The only problem so far is that it seems quite senstitive to cable set up, unlike the GD. If you don't have the cable quite right you can find it drops on its own mid ride. Now I've got the cable sorted (I think it had stretched), it's sweet. I've got the long version.

I didn't realise this was out. I wonder if I send my original command post back to Spez for a service they will upgrade it.

Also the original switch sucked (well it still does!)

Well to be honest it was the fact it was a 75mm travel model combined with the 3-step travel that sold it to me.
The Reverb is too long even in its 100m version - i needed a max height of 160mm from the seat rails to the seat collar and the reverb is 165/170mm.
There is that 85mm post from Germany on E-bay but i was worried about any warranty problems.
My mate has a Gravity Dropper and i don't like how much lateral play there is in the saddle - plus it's hideous!

The one i'm buying is expensive at full price (£250) but i've seen it at £212, just not in the size i need

only reliability prob i can see would possibly be a sticky cable, i take it you also thought about reverbs and GD'S.. what swayed you towards the command if you dont mind me asking..?

Apparently, the original Command Post used a propriatory (sp?) cable system that you had to source from Spesh when you needed a replacement, the 2012 Blacklite uses a regular gear cable so easy to sort out. 300g lighter as well i believe. As i've just found out, Spesh have a good customer services approach so if it does go wrong you have good back up.

Nice one, cheers.. it was the 3 position settings that attracted me to it and also the fact it was mechanical and using a metal collet, hopefully a bit more reliable..

I'll let you know nest week. I have managed to source the 75mm 2012 blacklite from Spesh even though they don't import it to the UK (Thanks to those lovely people at Spesh UK)

I was attracted to if for it's 3 position settings rather than a 'limitless' system like the reverb - as well as being short enough for me of course! I'm liking the control lever being part of the lock-on collar as well, looking forward to playing with it now

Cheers. I'm a software engineer. I've been in a perm position for the last six years since graduating and I've been told today that I'm being let go. I've been thinking about contracting recently so it's maybe not all that bad. I'm considering a move to Manchester or London (I've got a couple of hoodies... )

Still there's a lot to think about but I've been asked to send a CV in already for another perm position near where I am now so going to do that first as they are already at second stage interview.

Thanks for your post, that's useful

what field are you in? i reckon the "ideal" CV probably varies considerably depending on the job.

I had mine updated recently:

Name/Contact details etc

Brief summary paragraph

Education (just listed universities and degrees/post grad stuff)

Significant transactions (this is basically my work experience, I bullet pointed the key transactions/deals/projects I've been working on (client, value, deal, main role, notable legal issues etc)

Additional info (I stuck in stuff about pro bono work, my supervisory role re younger lawyers, long term courses I'm involved in)

Interests (very briefly described the fact that i'm active by listing a couple of things I do when i'm not being brutally shafted by a client)

Refereees

Mine is 2 pages in total. I have a slightly longer version (3 pages) which has a more detailed transactional history which I send if asked for something specific (i.e. a request from an energy client would make me tailor it towards their sector). But for general requests from rec cons and competitors, I just send the 2 page brief version. Leaves something to talk about when you meet them!

That will be the cheap one, try looking for XTR, even the older M960...

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=15020

But I've replaced all mine with Middleburn, currently lasted twice as long, and half the price:

It seems to me with the crazy price of the rings that it's looking like it'd make sense to buy a whole new chainset (c£125) and then sell the unused BB and arms on here (maybe £45 & £25 as it's brand new) meaning you'll get all 3 rings for about £55 instead of one for £70?

EDIT: That's bollocks, sorry. It's only £110. Crackers.

starbike.com do them and are half the price of XT at least, dont last any longer than XT but i like em

edit they arnt as cheap as they were when i bought them but are still cheaper than XT
