"178mm / 152mm rotors "
My guess is someone has converted that from 6" and 7". I was under the impression 140mm rotors were referred to 5", 160mm rotors as 6", 180mm as 7", 203mm as 8"

Measure the outer diameter of your rotors, you'll know then

"fact they're still using that pattern on their latest rotors must say something"
Hayes aren't the most progressive brake company around ..

Yep raggatip - when I looked at the situation it made complete sense, but I was taken in by the prettyness :D.
Hayes style is what I've gone for too, the fact they're still using that pattern on their latest rotors must say something.

I read one review Dirt and it was enough to put me off getting them so I went for the Hayes. I thought the same as you aswell actually in that more metal equals more contact which equals more stopping power.

I bought the flame rotors and after 6 months or so (bought them at bikeradar live) I've now bought new rotors.
I thought the pads were contaminated but then for other reasons I put a friend's hope floating rotor on instead of the flame rotor. HUGE difference. Same pads, just different rotors and I was astounded. They were both ~200mm variants but the power from the hope made the flame rotor feel like a 180 or less. I feel this is down to the amount of pad contact and so I've gone for a rotor with more metal in it. Doesn't look so good and is heavier but stops me waaaay quicker.
Just something to think about.

P.S. For Sale - 1 x 203 flame rotor. £5.

Hey nice one! They are cheap. Might get a pair of those flame style ones after I've searched for reviews. Would prefer it if they didn't rust as that would add weight.

Superstar components sell rotors for cheapness, I haven't tried them but others on here have reported good things before.

OK cheers Skids. So those 160mm and 180mm options for the Clarks are too large? Basically they are 6.30 inches and 7.09 inches respectively. I don't really want to spend too much as these are a for a spare set of wheels which will have slicks on for commuting to work.

That'll be 6" and 7" in old money... You can get away with a couple of mm smaller ok, but wouldn't go much more... If you get slightly bigger rotors, you can shim between the caliper and mounts.

I want to avoid getting post mounts and am hoping they are standard sizes. To be honest I haven't measured them. Just got the sizes off here as it's the same bike. I take it I should measure the outside diameter to get the exact size

How have you got those sizes you mention? Rotors are normally standard sizes 160, 180 etc etc and I've not heard of either of those.

If they really are the sizes then all the hayes I know are post mount so you could get some new adaptors and 2 sets of rotors.

Hi all,

I have Hayes HFX 9 178mm / 152mm rotors on my giant. I want to get some rotors for a spare set of wheels and was looking at these Clarks Light weight rotor but the sizes aren't the same. Problem is I can't find any rotors that exact size. Can anyone help please?
