My first event and loved every minute, brilliant course and fantastic atmosphere all topped off with a very unexpected team medal.
I'm absolutely in awe at the solos pulling consistent sub hour laps and being passed on the final climb by a fully rigid singlespeeder was just hilarious. Seeyou next year!

the lad with the back injury I saw happen!

it was a proper acrobatic flip over the bars.. am glad he is ok..
he had the stuffing knocked right out of him, with some serious whimpering going on.
I knew he was hurt and just shouted for the medics!

had a great time - first solo attempt - 8 laps - inexperience was telling - I should have managed 9 really. but spent too long in the pits, and also eased off too much laps 3 to 6...
there is always next year!

[quote]was friendly and polite with no 'race leader coming through' shenanigans like last year[quote]

It was you that was saying that last year

Good course, i made hardwork of the first half of each lap found it hard to get any rhythm but i put that down the mighty combo of a lack of skill and repeated poor line choice.

Second half was great fun and the natural sections were a good challenge. Could not have asked for better weather and the day was completed with awesome hog roast rolls at the end.

quality vid and good proof for my mates that i did infact ride up the double dip climb at the end of the red route on my SS :D.

BWD- always good to put a face to a regular forum name! Cheers for the peaks route advice I will take a look at a map and find some newer trails to play on down there. Good luck for your future pairs/ solo races (i think you mentioned both?)

Was wishing I was riding my normal trail bike instead of the short travel hardtail which struggled on the big rooty sections, but snapped the shifter with my foot bailing on out pre-ride on friday night. Had the full suspension in the back if the car but with no shifter I had no choice but to run the hardtail singlespeed. The two steep climbs at the end of the lap were not fun!

Think we finished 4th overall 5 minutes off third with 9 laps. Considering everything that happened we have to be pleased with that! Those solo riders at the top were quick- 10 laps around 10 hours was impressive!

Don't forget the next '10' is at Llandegla, might be closer for some

Wish I could make it to that one, really enjoyed Saturday despite starting slow and getting slower, and constantly getting confused about how far round the lap I was...

Had an ace day racing pairs, though as a Peak rider, my relationship with roots is best described as 'fraught' - mostly we get on pretty well, but every so often it all goes horribly wrong and I have a few scrapes as evidence. Big respect to anyone soloing that course, I can imagine the first third of it would fry your brain after six hours or so.

Thought people were brilliant about passing out on the course too, none of the passive aggressive crap I've encountered at other events.

Defaultslipper, hope your mate's feeling better. I was camped next to you guys - blue tent, ti hardtail, Freeride Spain/Brixton Cycles jerseys - and we had a bit of a chat mid-race, I'd ridden past him when he was sat by the side of the trail with a neck brace on. Nice meeting you.

Anyway, to anyone southern based thinking about doing a No Fuss event in the future, I'd say go for it despite the distance - well organised, great 'just technical enough' course and a really mellow, friendly atmosphere. One of the nicest events I've done.

What an awesome day that was, I'm still in pain today pretty much head to toe, stairs were not fun yesterday!!

Went OTB on the steeper of the natural sections on my first lap and never really got on with it after that (even took to pushing down it on my last lap as I could barely hold on ).

Really enjoyed the existing sections but being on a hired 29er for the first big wheel experience I never really got hooked up over the roots. Rocky sections were a breeze though!

Was even happier when I got back to Edinburgh and found out it had been raining most of the afternoon

As TL said, i done well. Had done a 100 miler day before so legs were tired going into the event. Still, head down and tried to stay consistent and worry about my own pace rather than everyone else's

Sorry as much as i hated the road climb on 32.18 the resultant natural section was awesome !

Rode the old trail section today and wished id climbed the road .

Was less fire road than previous years im adamant !

Favorite section was after the rocky decent to fire road crossing to batter down the natural section - loved that natural section - brakes off and just throw the bike about !

Less kittylitter is better in the dry !

Of course thats my opinion

Thought that whilst overall the course was good, and it contained all my fave bits there is too much doubletrack/road slipping in. Each year there seems to be a bit more. This year the road climb bit seemed pointless. Why not stick with the original trail? Why go up a road, along firetrack, and then come down to drag loads of mud onto the existing trail? As posters have said there was no issue with passing generally; i certainly let as many fast riders passed as i was freely able to pass others.

i've done this 4 years now, and love the event though i'll never bother the winners!!

great day out, mixed feelings about the course. Wasn't the biggest fan of the first half of it and dreaded starting every lap. 2nd half flowed so much better, great fast rooty sections, 2 fearsomely steep climbs and was fun. Weather drying out the course helped alot and thankfully it never rained ( was actually dare i say it pretty hot at times). Good atmosphere around and everyone was friendly and polite with no 'race leader coming through' shenanigans like last year.

Usual early puncture for me, followed by a crash as i tried to make up time ( blimming trees )
The hog roast roll was amazing at the end
The midges were as usual horrendous
You cant eat chocolate cookies when racing without drinking at the same time
Marshalls were again outstanding ( although chilling in a recliner at the side of the course sounded a good bet )
The start was again way too fast ( i even suggested that everyone take it easy till top of the climb )

and......... many many thanks too my pit crew and great friends Doug and Iain for there invaluable support. True legends

Excellent course. Brilliant natural downhill sections with some 'interesting' rooty bits. And good use of the existing kirro singletrack. I'd forgotten how pedaly it can be which is good as it keeps it interesting but bad for tired legs! Hope the guy who did his back in and the fellow with the suspected broken legs are ok :s
