There’s under a week to go now before the start of the 2010 Gore Bike Trans Wales and for those of you who, like me, are preparing to put your body through the 7-Day challenge, the starting gate is fast approaching.
All the weeks and months of preparation will be put to the test come Sunday when everyone there will look to burst (or idly canter) out of the starting blocks.
Should the weather remain fair throughout, the event promises to be a fantastic experience for anyone taking part, should the weather take on the quintessential British approach to summer time then we’re all in for a week of muddy madness, which is equally appealing!
The last thing I have to do now before embarking on the journey to Wales is to ensure that I have all the necessary equipment and goods I need to survive.
So I have my itinerary:
Bike – Check
Kit – Check
Food – Check
Fitness Levels – ah, we may have an issue.
The Sunn Shamann that I am riding for the event has so far proven to be a delightful companion as I’ve been incorporating at least two 20+ mile rides a week into my routine. Despite this, I’m beginning to feel a little apprehensive about the task ahead.
There has been a huge increase in the number of doubts about my fitness level, my riding ability and my mental strength to complete the 500km trip beginning to leak into my daily consciousness and I’ve begun to question my sanity for applying in the first place as I fear I may fail miserably.
Time will soon tell. My mind has been reassured minutely by the fact that it is too late to do anything about it now.
So to those of you who participating, I wish you all good luck and see you all on Saturday.
For the rest of you, I will be updating you on my painful progress throughout the Trans Wales on the ST homepage so I hope it brings you at least an element of amusement.
