We are looking for value for money here. The perfect entry level bike or maybe that second bike to take the pressure off your more valuable ride. It still needs to perform and it was more than just the price that made these three bikes stand out from the rest.

And the finalists this year are…

  • Genesis Latitude
  • Charge Cooker 2
  • Boardman MTB Pro 29r

Genesis Latitude 10

genesis-latitude
Genesis Latitude 10: RRP £899

There’s a lot here to be excited about and not just the fact you get £100.01 change from a grand. Tubeless ready 29r wheels with Maxxis Ardent rubber on the outside are just one of our personal highlights. The careful attention given to matching the gearing to the wheel size is a touch often ignored on budget bikes and it’s not the sort of thing beginners tend to look for but they certainly appreciate when they ride it.

Charge Cooker 2

Hardtail, 29 M Cooker 2 White
Charge Cooker 2: RRP £749

29r wheels and even a Shimano 2×10 groupset and Rockshox forks make this bike stand out as a total bargain. It has the looks and ride of a much more expensive bike and is not just a perfect entry level bike but also a great choice as a second bike in anyone’s lineup. There’s a whole range of Cookers to choose from and next year’s range looks like it will be even better.

Boardman MTB Pro 29r

BoardmanPro29
The Boardman MTB Pro Hardtail 29r: RRP £999

With a triple butted frame, Rockshox Reba’s up front and even a sprinkling of Shimano XT, this is an entry level bike with a very impressive kit list for a penny under a grand.
