Spanish mountain bike giant Mondraker has launched its new 2016 collection.

Mondraker pioneered the Forward Geometry concept which means the bike is longer but your contact points remain the same.

The company celebrates its 15th anniversary in the business this year – and they’re doing so in usual innovative fashion.

Dune Carbon XR

Mark took a pretty comprehensive look at this bad boy in Leogang, Austria, earlier in the year but in case you missed it, here are a few key features to this enduro machine.

Mondraker has well established itself as pioneers of Forward Geometry- which is basically longer top tubes that are offset with shorter stems to provide a bit more control and safety- so it is no surprise that this model is built with that as a focal point.

The Mediterranean manufacturers have self-proclaimed this bike to be “the ultimate enduro race bike,” and with their patented Zero suspension system which, according to Mondraker, provides greater efficiency in pedalling, travel and overall performance by floating the shock between two links, that statement won’t be far from the truth. The rear travel is set at 160mm, but it can be adjusted.

The gearheads at Mondraker have placed a lot of faith in carbon, so much so that they’ve used the light, yet durable material to produce the top linkage.

Crafty+

This years edition of the Crafty+ has downsized to 27.5in wheels, but that Forward Geometry stays as signature.

This Mondraker model has 140mm rear travel with, similar to the Dune Carbon, the Zero suspension system.

The frameset is the all-new Stealth Evo aluminium, which offers a cheaper alternative to Mondraker’s carbon models, but that’s not to say the performance will be greatly hindered. Mondraker has fitted this full suspension bike with a one piece monoblock linkage.

Vantage+

The hardtail line extends to four separate models, which all feature a 140mm travel front fork, new MDK-DP1 TLR wheels with 40mm internal width rims and Maxxis Chronicle tyres.

The RR+ edition, the most expensive in the Vantage range, has been designed with a Stealth Evo frameset and, of course, Forward Geometry. It also features Shimano Deore XT 1×11 gearing with Race Face Aeffect crankset.

e-MTB

Yes this is an e-bike, but don’t click away – e-bikes have their place (but let’s not get into that discussion today) and Mondraker realised that when it introduced three e-models; the e-Vantage, e-Crafty and e-Panzer, which have all had an upgrade for 2016.

All three models follow the same DNA as their non-electric namesakes, but of course being e-bikes, they all feature a battery power pack- to be specific; the new Bosch Performance CX Drive with 400Wh of power.

Foxy Carbon XR

Mondraker’s bestselling model has been split into three aluminium and three Stealth Carbon versions, which all include 140mm Zero suspension system and – you guessed it – Mondraker’s own pioneering Forward Geometry.

All Foxy models have had a slight makeover in appearance but in terms of spec, this years’ editions haven’t changed much – which is to be expected when the previous models have been so well received. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Similar to the Mondraker models mentioned, the Foxy has been fitted with a monoblock one-piece linkage, but in aluminium. It also has Shimano Deore XT 1×11 gearing and a Race Face Aeffect crankset with 30T ring.

Summum Carbon Pro Team

Here it is: the bike we all get to see but not touch (unless you’re Danny Hart or Emmeline Ragot that is).

The Summum 2016 range is based around two aluminium and two carbon frame designs. The Pro model has that Zero suspension system with 205mm of travel. It’s running with SRAM DH Z01 and 34T ring with a 7-speed (10-24T) cassette, and for suspension it has lower linkage points with oversized pivot axles to provide that all important downhill suspension.

The e-vantage was a hoot yesterday when i demo’d it – putting it head to head against a 29r fs ebike proved that now we have the 27+ tyre size, ebikes are going to be a great addition to the MTB scene.
