10-40 Ten Speed Cassette For Under A Ton

We reported previously on Praxis’ narrow/wide chainring, and have given you hints of its new wide-range cassette too – now here’s the real deal on the latter, which should bring affordable 40T one-by drivetrain joy to the masses.

She seems incredibly excited about this cassette, but then again this is Taiwan – maybe she knows something we don’t?

It’s designed to work with SRAM or Shimano mid- or long-cage rear mechs (no shorties, please) and has a claimed weight of 322g – given that Shimano claims 323g for an 11-36T XT cassette, we think that’s pretty reasonable. The smaller cogs are steel while the larger end of proceedings is machined from 7075-T6 aluminium, hard-anodized for improved wear.

Praxis says the cassette was: “Designed with [a] goal of proper, no sacrifice, no compromise ‘Wide-Range’ 10sp MTB cassette for consumers. Shifting integrity was priority. We did NOT want to be just another ‘Expander/Adaptor’ that many riders are resorting to. We wanted a full proper cassette. Works on any 10sp MTB wheel with no ‘rigging’ or ‘adaptors.’ It’s as simple as installing and adjusting your RD.”

Stock is expected to be available in time for summer, and UK distributors Upgrade say RRP is expected to be (just) under £100.
