Fresh Goods Friday 212

by 7

Heeeeeeeerrrrreeee’s Johnny! Oh. No, sorry – my mistake.

Johnny’s on holiday somewhere remote with his family and an axe. But it’s Fresh Goods Friday. Yay!

Sony Actioncam and LiveView Remote.

IMG_9802

For an upcoming camera grouptest, here’s Sony’s offering. The Actioncam has an 18.9Megapixel Exmor CMOS sensor, a Zeiss lens, GPS and Wifi and all sorts of other bells and whistles, mounts and so forth. Chief among these is the Liveview Remote, which can wirelessly co-ordinate up to 5 cameras and display what they’re seeing on your wrist. Oooh.

Price:

Actioncam: £319

Liveview Remote: £129

Lumicycle

Lumicycle Explorer Enduro light.

IMG_9808

This very neat little puppy can punt 3000 lumens continuously (lesser, more battery conserving outputs are available), but it can also push out a colossal 3500 lumens for a 3 minute burst – presumably for those moments when you have a rock that badly needs melting. It comes in a lovely tin rather like the…

Lumicycle InSight light

IMG_9806

Not so much a rear light as Deep Thought with red flashy bits, the InSight promises to ‘revolutionise the cycling industry’. It has an accelerometer which lights up a couple of super-bright CREE lights when you slow down, and is apparently instantly self learning over any terrain – so it can tell, for example, if you’ve just ridden over a bump, or a non-compliant marmot, or you genuinely want to slow down. All hail the approaching vanguard of Our New Robot Overlords.

Price:

Explorer: £284.95

InSight: £79.95

Sugoi Icon Jacket

IMG_9804

Sugoi’s very GREEN waterproof. I could see the Joker wearing this if it got a bit rainy in Gotham City and he was fresh out of poison-gas umbrellas. He’ll have to fight our Jorji for it first, mind. And she’s immune to poison gas! Place your bets…

Leatt Body Armour

Leatt Elbow Guard 3DF Airflex

IMG_9778

Barney does his special “I can eat apples using my elbows” party trick in these elbow pads. The flexy, rubbery stuff deforms to deflect impacts. The lightweight pads have a 6mm profile, silicone lamination to keep the pad in place and MoistureCool wicking fabric. Much the same as the…

Leatt 3DF Airflex knee guards

IMG_9766

The idea is to have a super flexy, comfortable all-day set of pads which will still give you a degree of protection if things go squirrely. If you need something a little more.. burly, you could always try the..

EVOC stuff

IMG_9814

Oooh, somebody’s got lots of travelling in the pipeline! Either that or Jorji needs to hide a body or two until she can find an appropriate metal foundry.

Chipps’ Japanese Box Of Joy

IMG_9783Chipps bought a big box of Japanese food for a sushi night he’s got planned. The labelling is startling, and we imagine some of the contents are too.

Price: £50

From: The Japan Centre

That’s about it for this week. Time to get out the plastic bags, gaffer tape them to our legs and keep our tootsies nice and dry in the glop. Or just hanging around the office – have a good weekend!

Barney Marsh takes the word ‘career’ literally, veering wildly across the road of his life, as thoroughly in control as a goldfish on the dashboard of a motorhome. He’s been, with varying degrees of success, a scientist, teacher, shop assistant, binman and, for one memorable day, a hospital laundry worker. These days, he’s a dad, husband, guitarist, and writer, also with varying degrees of success. He sometimes takes photographs. Some of them are acceptable. Occasionally he rides bikes to cast the rest of his life into sharp relief. Or just to ride through puddles. Sometimes he writes about them. Bikes, not puddles. He is a writer of rongs, a stealer of souls and a polisher of turds. He isn’t nearly as clever or as funny as he thinks he is.
