Interbike 2014: The bumbag renaissance continues

Dakine aren’t scared of butt trunks… or bears.

Grr!
Grr!

As tempting as it to dismiss Dakine as a fashion-first brand, their Interbike booth this year had plenty of cool stuff for both style and tech fans.  While we don’t know that we’d wear it, it’s hard not to appreciate the company’s new Paradise print, featuring as it does a painting of mountains, trees, rivers, and a noble grizzly.  Oh, and it’s antimicrobial, so you can wear it for several rides in a row.

On the technical side, the Drafter pack gets an airy redesign for 2015.  The update includes mesh-and-foam shoulder straps, a perforated waist belt, and a magnetic hose clip.  The changes should keep the perennial favourite competitive and that much more comfortable once summer rolls back around.

While last year’s Enduro hip pack was a success, it proved to be too big for a lot of riders and left those without bottle cages with a severe case of dry mouth.  The fix?  Dakine’s Hot Lap.  Now with a single zippered pocket and a bottle sleeve, the Hot Lap is considerably smaller than its predecessor- but should still be able to carry everything needed for an hour or so in the woods.  What say you all?
