New for next spring, Belgian protection specialists Lazer’s Blade and Magma helmets seem set to deliver good looks, multiple sizes, and some high-end features at a sensible price.  Selling for similar money to the £75/$110 Rox/O2XC reviewed last winter, the mountain-oriented Magma and peakless Blade boast several improvements over their predecessors.

The biggest benefit should come from the shift from one size to three, improving fit and stability for the small-to-medium heads in the crowd.  Weight is down roughly 10% to a claimed 250g – though Lazer’s published weights have been optimistic at times the sample they had on hand certainly felt light.  The more organic look and mini-spoiler borrow heavily from the range-topping Z1, nicely walking the line between road and trail aesthetics.

Lazer’s Rollsys retention system has been revamped, with a more intuitive reversed motion and better integration into the shell.  Before sounding the alarm, please note that an optional Rollsys cover is included with each helmet, keeping the gunk out.
