Forget Black Friday Bird Goes Stealth With 2018 Zero AM Boost

by 2

Forget all those Black Friday discounts for a moment and feast your eyes on the latest hardcore hardtail from UK bike band Bird.

If you know anything about Bird Cycleworks and its range of competitively priced bikes, you’ll know that the first bike from the company was the Zero AM hardtail. The alloy hardtail became an instant hit for riders looking for some low-cost hooligan fun and paved the way for the Bird Aeris range of long, slack, full-suspension bikes.

While the original Zero AM is still a great bike today, there were are few areas that Bird’s designers wanted to updat in time for the 2018 season, hence the launch of the all new 2018 Zero AM Boost.

Acid Yellow with Pink! We likey!

As the name suggests, this new frame receives Boost spacing for 148 x 12 which also gives the new frame more room for larger 27.5 x 2.8in rubber to turn freely even in the UK’s most muddy conditions.

The all new Atomic Blue is nice too!

While adding Boost, the folks at Bird also decided to use what they had learned from the Aeris and apply the full-suspension bike’s reach and ETT numbers to the Zero AM. A size ML 2018 Zero AM now gets a 630mm ETT which equates to a 451mm reach.

Geometry based on the Aeris full suspension bike

It’s slack too with a 64.1 degree static head angle when built with a 160mm travel fork. If that’s too much travel for you then Bird can also build the Zero AM with a shorter 150mm fork too.

Other very clever design choices include external brake and gear cable routing for easy maintenance, stealth dropper routing for neatness, an ISCG05 chain guide (supplied with boost/non-boost adaptor) and, get this, a 73mm threaded bottom bracket!

Happy Stealth Black Friday

As with all of Bird’s bikes you can either choose to buy the 2018 Zero AM as a frame only option for £475.00 or as complete bike from only £1,374.00 with SRAM NX 11 speed. Prices top out at  £1,641.00 for the all singing, all dancing SRAM Eagle 12 Speed build.

Complete builds from just £1374

Customers also have the option to custom spec bikes with a range of Rockshox forks, Shimano or SRAM group sets, DT Swiss or Hope wheels and options of Bird, Raceface or Hope finish kit.

Watch out for our first look coming soon.

There will also be 3 colour options including the return of Stealth Black, Acid Yellow/Hot Pink, or Atomic Blue / Orange.

This is what Ben from Bird had to say about the new 2018 Zero AM:

“With the Zero AM boost update we’ve brought in additional quality and refinements to the already popular design, without compromising it. The new boost spacing and revised geo brings it up to date with our Aeris full suspension bikes but doesn’t loose any of the easy to live with, great to ride characteristics of the original.

I think for sometime its been our signature hardtail, and the fans of the original will be happy to see the lineage continue, only even better. Dave liked the 2nd generation prototype of this new version so much he’s kept it as his own and has been riding it round our local trails for months. So much for keeping things under wraps!”
