During 2016 there were lots of youngsters testing their legs on the half marathon, and for 2017 these keen pups can now ride for half the price. The mini marathon will still be free to under 16s with a special drop down function added to the entry page.

Also for 2017 the organisers are offering the whole range of Scott mountain bikes from hardtails to full suspension, E-bikes, plus bikes, premium bikes and of course Nino’s Olympic conquering Spark. The bikes are available in very limited numbers so again use the new feature on the entry page to secure a ride on your dream bike while stocks last.

The organisers say they are proud to be allowing E-Bikes into their events for 2017, as well as offering them for hire. The organisers say that responsible use of these bikes really can make mountain biking accessible to those who otherwise might not venture out into the hills so they are embracing the use of them if they are ridden in the spirit of their intended use. Bottom line: E-Bike riders – it’s yours to lose, be safe, be considerate.

The fourth round will go live just as soon as the organisers have finalised a few details. On-line entries will close 7 days before each event and entries are non-transferrable/refundable.

Singletrack contributor Fi Spotswood wrote about her experiences at two of the events last year – Ruthin and Exmoor – and Hannah rode the Long Mynd event in 2015 while waiting to hear if she’d got the job at Singletrack! They’re great events which cater for all abilities and offer a fun weekend away for the whole family.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.
