Video: The Evil Calling Is A Chubby Shredder!

by 4

If you love burly trail bikes, then you’re going to get a kick out of this one. The newest bike to join the Evil lineup, the Calling slots into the range as a 130mm travel 27.5in trail bike with attitude. It’s got a big fat carbon frame,65.8° degree head angle in its slackest setting, and a single pivot suspension design with Dave Weagle’s Delta design controlling the rear shock.

Based out of Seattle in the Pacific Northwest of the US, Evil Bikes has been killing it lately, with hard-hitting full suspension bikes that include the 151mm travel Insurgent (27.5), the 161mm travel Wreckoning 29er, and the 120mm travel Following 29er. The Calling fills the gap in the range as a shorter travel and smaller-wheeled trail bike, though it also brings with it some modernised features to bring it right up to date. It’ll even fit 26+ wheels and tyres…

How do you like the ‘Angry Dolphin’ colour?

“Have you ever wanted a bike that wasn’t like a bike at all? More like your favourite snowboard, or your favourite surfboard, the one that catches all the waves or trashes [pillow] lines in the snow. The Calling is the answer. This trail weapon has enough travel to keep you honest, while encouraging you to irresponsibly hit every extra-credit line on the trail.” – Evil Bikes

Even without wheels it looks fast.

That is a serious bit of industrial design for such a small company. They have a damn good designer and manufacturer onboard to get such an integrated design

woody74, the designer started the company… It’s kinda Dave Weagle’s thing designing incredible suspension bikes, he does it under license for a fair few others now but still has huge ties back to the company he founded of course.

This Calling should be a riot, but I’m surprised just how close (20mm of travel aside) it is to the current Insurgent. I guess the Boost back end and the lack of front derailleur mount might hint at what’s to come for a potential Following replacement as and when it’s due…

Looks/sounds great and probably everything I’d want from a trail bike……..but sadly I won’t be buying one, because of the poor value in the UK. The frame is $2900 in the US, but being advertised at £3200 ($4000) in the UK.

To put this in perspective, it’s £1000 more than my Following frame which I bought 18 months ago (which is a great bike, I’m a complete Evil convert) and only £100 less than I paid two months ago for a complete 2016 Strive CF Race 9.0 complete with a Fox 36 Factory, Next SL/XO1 drivetrain, DT Swiss EX1501 wheelset etc

Hear what you’re saying snooze. Donald Trump’s in the White House in 8 weeks though, lets see if he can get the dollar back up at 2:1 with the £ just like Dubya did for his reign, before that pesky Obama came along and rescued it somewhat! 😉
