Singletrack Readers’ Awards: The Winners!

by 2

The Singletrack Readers’ Awards have grown from an excuse to get together for a few beers to a proper grown up awards ceremony with nominees, trophies, acceptance speeches, and black tie. Actually, there’s no black tie. That would be just a little too grown up, and bike industry employees are pretty attached to their plaid shirts. There was still beer though, and food, and it’s still great to get everyone together for a relaxed catch up away from the madness of press launches.

So who was there? What were they wearing? Who stumbled on the red carpet? Did anyone *gasp* turn up wearing the same dress as someone else? We’ll be bringing you all that important information in our Hello issue of Singletrack, Issue 109, out October 20th. You could also watch the whole ceremony as we broadcast it live on Facebook:

It’s worth watching just for the bit where Chipps explains how he came to own the jacket he was wearing. On a less frivolous note, it’s also worth watching for Jo Burt’s speech on behalf of Morvélo – it’s quite lovely, Jo was clearly moved giving it, and we were all moved listening to it. Thanks Jo.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.
