Diamonds from the Core 2016 – Part 1

by 1

More goodness from last week’s Core Bike 2016 trade show – in this instalment, some cool stuff from Transition, Dainese and FSA…

Transition

Transition Double

We were rather taken with some of the smaller offerings on the Transition stand – principally this cute Transition Double jump bike – 100mm of travel, singlespeed and resolutely 26in wheels. Handy for the local jump spot, or slopestyle, or whatever you fancy, really.

Transition Ripcord

And going *even smaller*, this is the Ripcord, a full-on 24in wheeled full-suss bling machine for miniature shredders. It’ll set you (or them, natch) back £1499.95.

Dainese

Dainese Trail SkinsRe-jigged Trail Skins knee pads – more fitted, more comfy, but with the same levels of breathability and protection (we liked the previous ones rather a lot), in natty blue. Dainese are going great guns with clothing too…

WDainese Smartwatch Atmoe particularly liked the Atmo smatrwatch jacket, which has…Smartwatch Atmo Dainese…a touchscreen compatible window on the sleeve to put your smartphone underneath (duh). It’ll set you back £199.99

Gravity

Gravity seatpost

Gravity were showing this imminent dropper – no firm details yet apart from the drop (125mm), but it’s likely to come in around the £200 mark, which should make it very competitive indeed. Colour us intrigued.

Vee

Vee tyres were showing some interesting looking chubby rubber – rhe Crown up front…

…and the Bulldozer out back.

Reynolds wheelReynolds had some new for 2016 wheels on show – carbon rims, 28 spokes front and rear, asymmetrical to apparently make them more compliant (vertically) yet still laterally stiff…

Reynolds trail wheel

There are several flavours available – trail wheels in 29 and 27.5 with a 25mm internal width, enduro with a 28mm internal in 27.5 and 29, and chubber 27.5 plus wheels with a 40mm internal width. They’ll cost £1799.Reynolds Industry9 hubThey’ve increased their relationship with Industry9, so they’re using their (rather pretty) hubs too.

Barney Marsh takes the word ‘career’ literally, veering wildly across the road of his life, as thoroughly in control as a goldfish on the dashboard of a motorhome. He’s been, with varying degrees of success, a scientist, teacher, shop assistant, binman and, for one memorable day, a hospital laundry worker. These days, he’s a dad, husband, guitarist, and writer, also with varying degrees of success. He sometimes takes photographs. Some of them are acceptable. Occasionally he rides bikes to cast the rest of his life into sharp relief. Or just to ride through puddles. Sometimes he writes about them. Bikes, not puddles. He is a writer of rongs, a stealer of souls and a polisher of turds. He isn’t nearly as clever or as funny as he thinks he is.
