GoPro Teases A Drone Launch

by 0

It’s tough at the top and GoPro is facing stiff competition for its portable-video-camera crown, with rivals in Nikon, Sony, Polaroid and more snapping at its heels. The action cam market is filling up, with nearly anyone who’s interested in filming themselves and their sports already owning a camera.

One of the next logical moves from GoPro is a 360° camera, like the 360Fly cam, which it has kind of done with its Omni – six cameras in a box kind of thing but it’s the recent teasing of GoPro’s Karma drone that has got people excited.

gopro omni,
I can seeee yooooou

The Karma is due for launch early this year and there’s a teaser video out that cunningly shows off the drone, while not showing any of it (to the point that the reflection in the skier’s goggles is blurred out…

And there was certainly some aerial work going on in Danny Mac’s last Cascadia video, but what was the drone they used? Although the film was entirely shot with GoPros, the drone conveniently doesn’t appear in the ‘making-of’ film (though the shadow of one is visible here dead centre of the shot)

Here’s the making-of vid, which is worth a watch anyway.

GoPro has had a tough year in 2015 with its share price plummeting and some hefty discounting going on, but it might be that the Karma can help turn this around. Assuming no one falls foul of the regulations for flying drones in the UK.

We’ll look forward to see what comes out of GoPro this year. And possibly finding a Karma in a treetop near you.
