30 Days of Biking

Day 7 – 30 Days of Biking

by 0

If you’ve not heard of it before, 30 Days of Biking is a personal challenge with a charitable edge. People pledge to ride their bike every day in April, and for every two that do, 1USD is donated to World Bicycle Relief. This year we have six riders attempting the challenge.

Day 7

Today our team shows that biking (or, for those that prefer it, cycling) takes many forms, and all of them can be fun.

Road bike rim brake rain terror?

Dear The North, thanks for sending the rain to enhance my 30 Days of Biking experience. You will be pleased to hear that it has arrived safely. Best wishes, The South.

It’s not all grey up North

I’m reading Murakami’s excellent book ‘What I talk about when I talk about running’, it’s an inspiring and interesting read. In it he discuses the habit of daily exercise and the benefits it brings. Today was actually my 21st consecutive day of riding (I started early for my #30daysofbiking attempt) and my habit is now coming along very nicely. Small wheeled commuter day today, and coffee.

Grumpy Greg

It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times. There is something about rest days that really wind me the wrong way. Yes I know I need to take them every few weeks but I really don’t enjoy them.

Rode the train. Got cranky. Biked a bit either side of work. Rode the train again.
Beer.

Slightly drunk big kids

Morning: boring, grey, damp commute to work. Evening: Kids away, went out for beers, did backies all the way home. Disproportionate distance traveled to fun ratio.

Oi you, gerrof the pavement!

OK so it’s infinitely more enjoyable when the sun is shining. London’s still MUCH smaller by bike though even when it’s windy and drizzling.

Light evenings are back and so are the ALine Coaching Evening Sessions where I attempt to ride big (to me) stuff and become (very slightly) rad.

Friday Beckons…

Seven days done, and so begins the second week of #30DaysofBiking. One more day of work and commutes before the weekend of possibilities. Start checking the forecast.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.
