Gurn: optional

The twelve hour format returns for pairs and solo riders, and within that is also the new Race of Champions, for teams of four that contain a member who’s previously been on the podium at the Bikefest. That’s fifteen years of champions eligible for entry, or for you to wheedle into joining you. Also new for 2016 is the Ritchey Reveller Sportive, featuring 60Km of gravel (the organisers recommend a gravel or cross bike, but say all bikes are allowed)

The Steve Worland Memorial Cup also returns, where riders can drink cider every lap and raise money for the Psoriasis Association Charity, as chosen by Steve’s partner Jo and his daughter Holly. The memorial race is open to any team size from solo to infinity, and sounds like a whole load of fun for a good cause. Entries open here at 9a.m. on February the 1st, and below are some video highlights of last year.

2016 Steve Worland Memorial Cup
Greatly missed by us, but you can drink cider and raise money for charity in his name.

David started mountain biking in the 90’s, by which he means “Ineptly jumping a Saracen Kili Racer off anything available in a nearby industrial estate”. After growing up and living in some extremely flat places, David moved to Yorkshire specifically for the mountain biking. This felt like a horrible mistake at first, because the hills are so steep, but you get used to them pretty quickly. Previously, David trifled with road and BMX, but mountain bikes always won. He’s most at peace battering down a rough trail, quietly fixing everything that does to a bike, or trying to figure out if that one click of compression damping has made things marginally better or worse. The inept jumping continues to this day.
