The hit event is back for next year

Battle on the Beach will return for its third edition on March 20th, 2016 with entries set to open at midnight on January 1st – the second the New Year starts! The UK’s only bicycle beach race in the UK will be held in Pembrey Country Park on the South Wales Coast.

The event has gained popularity by offering a unique format that is open to all styles off off-road bikes from mountain bikes to cyclocross bikes with a friendly, all-inclusive vibe. In 2015 all 600 places were sold out in a single day.

Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Gower Peninsula and coastal scenery of Carmarthen Bay, the race will be held at low tide, when the sea will be a mile offshore, meaning the sand will be rock hard and as fast as the fantastic singletrack hidden behind the dunes in the pine forest. There will be plenty for the serious racers but even more than a few surprises for everyone else around the course to keep you on guard and smiling.

There will be at least £1000 cash up for grabs for the victorious, and bundles of swag from the sponsors SIDI, Halo, Lezyne, Kinesis UK and Schwalbe and Surly will be giving away a frameset for whoever matches the “magic lap”.

New for 2016 is Battle in the Dark, held on Saturday evening before the main race it will be a single lap time-trial, held just after sunset. A single lap event is also available for anyone aged 12 and earlier in the day. 2 nights camping is included with the weekend pass with kids races also on the Saturday afternoon.

The beautiful park and miles of beach means the family will have something to do when they are not shouting at you. If the kids think watching you race is boring, Pembrey Country Park has the longest toboggan run in Wales, Segway rides, pony trekking, a 130 metre long dry ski slope, a giant adventure playground and 8 Wildlife trails with set routes.

Entries open at midnight January 1st and are priced at £28 or £40 – Last year the event sold out in just 40 hours, so don’t delay!
