Sea Otter 2015: WTB new Riddler Tyre

by 2

WTB have released a new low-profile tread pattern in a 2.4, 27.5in tyre. They’ve called it the Riddler, after the excellently named Nathan Riddle. It’s got a fast rolling centre tread, and larger side knobs, for speed with cornering traction. WTB intends it to be a rear tyre. Looks good.

Three-Quarter-View---WTB-Riddler-2Four-Resized-Image-for-ReleaseNathan identified a need for a tyre with the Beeline central pattern and the Vigilante cornering knobs: “I had been struggling whether to run the Beeline due to its light weight and fast rolling characteristics for a given race that incorporated an XC stage and a DH stage (with no tire changes,) or the Vigilante for its aggressive cornering traits…I pitched the idea for a tire that blended the best traits of both models into one tire – The Riddler. I was really amazed at how fast the WTB design team can go from an idea to a 3D model! …to have a tire named after me is actually a dream come true.”

It’ll be available in two different flavours:  Riddler TCS Light and Riddler TCS Tough – Prices TBC. More info from WTB.

Barney Marsh takes the word ‘career’ literally, veering wildly across the road of his life, as thoroughly in control as a goldfish on the dashboard of a motorhome. He’s been, with varying degrees of success, a scientist, teacher, shop assistant, binman and, for one memorable day, a hospital laundry worker. These days, he’s a dad, husband, guitarist, and writer, also with varying degrees of success. He sometimes takes photographs. Some of them are acceptable. Occasionally he rides bikes to cast the rest of his life into sharp relief. Or just to ride through puddles. Sometimes he writes about them. Bikes, not puddles. He is a writer of rongs, a stealer of souls and a polisher of turds. He isn’t nearly as clever or as funny as he thinks he is.

Now that, I am interested in. Would make a very good rear tyre for endurance racing too in…inclement weather.

Any idea if there will be a 29er version?

Looks remarkably similar to a Specialized Slaughter wouldn’t you say… which I’d suggest got it’s hints from a Schwable Rock Razor.

From experience and save your cash and go with the Grid version of the Slaughter because the WTB and Schwable tyres are made of cheese and the Slaughter is a great tyre!
