This week, we revisit Riders Cycle Centre
‘It’s about time too’ we hear you muse. This revisit to a true cycling stalwart and all-round-top-bike-rider is long overdue. We’re in Skipton, North Yorkshire checking in with Stuart Rider who’s been busy developing the Riders Cycle Centre (RCC) offer.
RCC has that old fashioned bike shop feel. A welcoming feel. A wood burner keeping the workshop warm and fresh ground coffee on the go. We’re chomping at the bit to hear more.
Happy New Year Stu. What’s happening?
Well, we’re still here and working hard. The competitive world of cycle retail welcomed a new bike shop back in 2012 and with a slight twist to our business plan I can gladly say, welcome 2015.
Our knowledge of the bike industry and our impartial sales advice has been a great help to many of our customers. With free parking and free advice it’s worth popping down for a chat and a brew and with the Dales on our doorstep, you can even mount up for a ride.
Our dedicated workshop is ticking over nicely. From pre-race health checks to a full service and everything in between. Our Maintenance courses continue to help our customers care for their bikes. That little extra knowledge from the course, which is tailored to your ability, can get you a few extra miles out of your groupset.
I am now Director, Manager, Mechanic and Accountant at RCC which makes for a busy schedule and plenty of plate spinning. A cyclist once wrote “It’s not about the bike” … to which I say … ‘wrong’. It is and with that in mind, I have always tried to ride as much as possible. From my daily commute, to weekend Cyclocross races. From off-road, Enduro’s, to multi-day and mileage marathons. My latest adventure may even make my Riders Cycle Centre blog page.
We continue to provide a custom bike build service to go along side our popular custom wheel build service. Winter wheels have been a great success and with our local cycling club Skipton CC growing year by year I have built a few sets of racing wheels incorporating all the latest cycling technology.
So what’s new for 2015?
This year sees RCC venture into the world of Bikepacking weekends. For a few years now I have taken part in many bikepacking rides, races and events. Our Introduction to Bikepacking weekends enables you to enjoy the two wheeled weekend adventure. We will supply you with the kit and guide. You just bring your warmest sleeping bag and your bike.
We have arranged a few rides for 2015. The now fully booked ‘Yorkshire Dales 300’ will have another smaller brother in the Autumn and our Red Pill Classic only has a few places left, so keep an eye out for more rides in the future. Stay in touch with developments on our Twitter and Facebook pages.
