This week, we’re revisiting Muddybum Bikes.
This week we’re catching up with Cardiff’s Muddybum Bikes. Last time we dropped in on Sam, Ben and Nick, they told us how Bike Park Wales and Gravity Enduro had transformed the local riding scene. This time, some new brands are helping them inject some flair into their custom build programmes…
What’s changed since we last dropped in?
We’ve all gone Mondraker crazy. We all tried the Mondys at the (now annual) Muddybum Bikes demo weekend and immediately got our hands on a custom Foxy XR and a tweaked Dune XR. Nothing is quite like these bikes.
Flat out speed and grip is incredible, so much so that our team rider Steve Jones won the South West downhill champs on his Dune XR! That upset a few dh folk. We are totally sold on performance and they still climb better than most regular trail bikes.
Any new lines in-store that really tickle your fancy?
They might not be the best looking bikes out there but they pretty much epitomise what we feel are the current mtb/enduro trends and it’s what our customers also want from their rides. My own Mondraker Foxy XR …
1 x 10 shimano setup with a 40T cassette extender and narrow/wide chainrings, Rockshox Pike fork and piggy back shock, Long wheelbase and short stem, Tubeless, Dropper post etc. Shimano xt/slx drivetrain and brakes – why pay SRAM prices for 1 x 11?
Otherwise, they are not a new line to us but it would be hard not to get just a little bit excited about this Intense custom build wouldn’t it…
What’s been hot, product-wise this Summer?
1. e-thirteen/hope 40-42t cassette extenders – everyone has gone 1 x mad!
2. Schwalbe Magic Mary – the best tyre for our local terrain bar none.
3. Race Face Ambush Knee pads.
What’s the score with custom builds and demo bikes?
On the not so far horizon, the new Transition Bikes line-up looks pretty sweet. We will have demo bikes landing soon and their new component brand Anvil is also looking very cool. Look out for some swag custom builds coming soon. Here’s a teaser of what’s to come ….
We can offer custom build packages on pretty much any brand we stock that offer ‘frame only’ options. Already got a frame? No problem. We can also offer competitive component and wheel packages with hand built wheels if that’s your preference.
Our annual demo days are on local singletrack at the beginning of April and offer a perfect opportunity to test the latest gear so as to make an informed decision.
Lastly, what do Singletrack Premier Subscribers get from you guys?
