Once a week we serve up a (doctor’s approved) dosage of product fancy from Singletrack’s Premier Dealers, stockists and advertisers.
Read on for your bite-sized, Tuesday Treats serving of independent bike retailing and a very special prize draw to boot.
This week, we introduce Cycle Addicts:
Cycle Addicts opened it’s doors in April 2012 on Bury Road in the heart of Rochdale. MTBer, snowboarder and owner David Brown picks up the story. ‘Things have gone great considering we’re still in our first year and we’re looking forward to a very busy 2013. Our fingers are genuinely crossed for better summer weather this year! (although we do love winter riding, especially the snow).
Our main priority is to give every customer good value for money, friendly advice and top servicing. Sticking to this has helped us go from strength to strength. We benefit massively from being located at the foot of some lovely riding, especially up at Lee and Cragg Quarry’s, plus there’s tonnes of natural trails only a few minutes ride from the shop.’
What’s your current best-selling/hottest product?
On the bike front, Kona 29ers have been doing very well and Continental Rubber Queen tyres have sold well all year. I have personally been riding the Black Chilli version Rubber Queens and love them. We’re also keen to share our favourite kit, with our test fleet including a Kona Process DL, Kona Satori 29er and a Orbea Occam 29er if anyone is interested.
Which product/brand does every staff member have on their bike?
Very quickly the dropper post has become a trail riding must and I wouldn’t be without my Rockshox Reverb! Otherwise our demo Garmin Edge 800 GPS unit and demo Light and Motion Seca, Urban light are very popular.
What was the last custom build you did?
I built up a Marin Wolf Ridge up just before Christmas. Jobs like this are ace. While it was an old frame, my customer was showing it some big love with a new full paint job and we rebuilt it with a new XT groupset, brakes and Fox forks. We all find it hard to let go sometimes! He was so happy with the process he then bought a Orbea Aqua frame and pimped his road bike with all colour coded parts. We do aim to please.
Is there a forthcoming event you think our readers should know about?
We have a Kona Demo Ride coming up on Wednesday 6th February, so please drop the shop an email or call us to register your interest or find out more.
More regularly, I run a ride from the shop every Thursday night (rain or shine at 6:30pm). It’s a great way of exploring new trails in and around Rochdale, as people come from all over, we all share knowledge of the trail networks and go on some killer rides. Keep posted on our Facebook page for getting involved.
Tell us something about your shop/staff that no-one knows…
I almost died riding the Mary Townley loop last year (both times!) but I’m still stupid enough to want to do it again, maybe on a dry day next time instead of during high winds and heavy rain which felt like a typical summer day in 2012.
