With the festive season now well and truly upon us (only 13 days to go, folks!), we thought it was time we took Tuesday Treats down the road to visit Singletrack’s local bike shop and Premier Dealer, Blazing Saddles in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire.
This being our backyard, we know the staff aren’t telling fibs when they say they have some of the best riding in the UK on their doorstep. They make a mean brew when they’re not either out riding bikes, fixing them in the busy workshop or selling them on the shop floor too.
Here, in its own words, is what Blazing Saddles is all about…
Give us a 50-word introduction to your operation that sums up what you are and what you do. Who works there, where are you, what are your specialisms, what’s the riding like on your doorstep?
Blazing Saddles celebrated its 18th birthday this year. Originally based in Barrowford it moved to Hebden Bridge ten years ago, after its founder John Ainscough decided he couldn’t resist its fabulous riding potential any longer. We currently have five full time members of staff and two part time. The commitment to quality service which prompted John to start Blazing remains at its heart today.
What’s your current best-selling/hottest product?
The locally made Orange Five Pro has been our best selling bike, with Bromptons also selling well. Best accessory? It’s got to be ODI Longneck ST grips.
Which product/brand does every staff member have on their bike?
Our staff ride all sorts…mountain bikes, cyclocross, touring, downhill, commuters and motorbikes! Most have a Buff on or tucked into a pocket ready to go.
What was the last custom build you did?
We recently helped Kinesis Morvelo rider Emma Osenton with her new cyclocross build. Read all about it here.
Tell us something about your shop/staff that no-one knows…
If you cut us in half we would leak cake and tea, pie and coffee! Just ask prohibition era-style and you will be handed a bottle of Hope Sh1tshifter which you can apply to your dirty bike and rinse off with our free bike wash facility at the back of the shop!
Is there a regular shop ride or forthcoming event you think our readers should know about?
The Valley of Lights has just happened, a wonderful event that is will hopefully be happening annually. Looking forward there are a couple of local cyclocross events happening up the hill in Heptonstall and down the valley in Todmorden: http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/80232/Yorkshire-Points-Round-9
Look out for the Blazing Saddles Santas riding bikes up hill and down dale and quaffing ale in the local bars as the festive season approaches!
Our demo fleet is always ready for action, too: we have 29ers from Specialized (Camber, Stumpjumper and Carve) plus the evergreen Orange Five Pro and demo lights from Exposure (Diablo and MaxxD), plus a demo GoPro if you’re camera-curious.
What do Singletrack Premier Subscribers get from Blazing Saddles?
We give Singletrack Premier Subscribers 10% off parts and accessories, plus 5% off bikes (excluding sale items).
