With less than four weeks to the second round of the Chain Reaction Cycles MTB Marathon Series 2011, Mike has sent us news of what’s going to be going happening…

“The trails out there are pretty much everywhere in perfect conditions and it feels that spring has arrived properly. The first round of the Chain Reaction Cycles MTB Marathon Series powered by Mercedes-Benz Vito Sport earlier this month was a great success and riders were thoroughly spoiled by the weather and the conditions out on course.

The second marathon of the series is only a touch under four weeks away (21-22nd May) and preparations for the first new location of the 2011 season are in full flow. John Lloyd has been playing with the idea of including Llandovery in the MTB-Marathon series for some years and finally this year it will make its debut.

The area around Llandovery has been John’s extended playing ground since the early days of his extended mountain biking career and you can rest assured that he will combined the best riding the area has to offer.

Starting at Llandovery Rugby Club, Carmarthenshire, the course will head out of Llandovery over Mynydd Myddfai, on the edge of the Black Mountains and enters a small area of forestry around the beautiful Usk Resevoir.

From here the route follows the Sarn Helen Trail, an old Roman road. After the split point the longer route drops down to, and crosses the A40, entering Halfway forest and then into the Crychan Forest, renowned for its technical single track and fire road climbs.

After a challenging loop here, the route follows the Afon Bran down the valley towards Llandovery. This course is an exciting mix of open hill, bridleways, forest roads, dual and single tracks, taking you into the Brecon Beacons national park and through some splendid countryside with stunning views of the Beacons and Black Mountains.
