Benromach Deg Yn Llandegla

The No Fuss Events crew are going to be busy people this summer – after announcing their MacAvalanche mass start race a short while ago, they’ve just come through with even more news – shock, horror, they’re going to do an event outside Scotland.

They’ve just announced that the third round of the Benromach 10 hour race series will be held in Llandegla, North Wales on the 20th August and in a nod to their new country, the race is going to be called Deg (10) Yn Llandegla.

Here’s what they have to say:

“Logistically this will be the No Fuss crew’s biggest challenge to date, although Spook (No Fuss Partner) would argue “ you have to have all your stuff together to go 30 miles down the road so this will be no different”. However, he does acknowledge (reluctantly) that crossing two borders into North Wales is a wee bit further down the road.

Celtic unity in action...

To help No Fuss deliver the promise, ‘another great event’, the team are delighted to welcome Ben Savage aboard. Ben is a former Trial World Champion still competes at the highest level. Ben said: “ I’m very excited to be working with the No Fuss team on their first venture out of Scotland. I have been going to Coed Llandegla for years and have always thought it would be an ideal venue to hold an event; hopefully this will be one of the bigger mountain bike races in the 2011 calendar. I have a busy few months ahead of me in order to get everything set for Saturday 20th August but I can’t wait, it’s going to be amazing!”

No Fuss made the choice to move to Wales when the venue in Moray was not available for the August dates. The search for a new venue has not been easy, issues of parking and most importantly, trails that are able to take the numbers and provide the quality associated with the Benromach 10 series are hard to find. Coed Llandegla Forest is owned and managed by UPM Tilhill, the largest private forestry company in the UK.

One Planet Adventure, owners of the bike shop and legendary café that claims to supply the ‘best Bacon Roll in the UK’ have been involved in the early planning stages of the event. Jim Gaffney reports: “We were honoured to have been approached by an event organiser with the reputation of No Fuss, and it was an easy decision to agree to having their first event outside of Scotland here at Coed Llandegla. We very much look forward to giving a warm Welsh welcome to all who intend to come and partake in what will be the largest event to be held here at Coed Llandegla.”

Entries for the Deg (10) Yn Llandegla are now open at www.nofussevents.co.uk. No Fuss are looking forward to working with One Planet Adventure and UPM Tilhill over the coming months to ensure that the third of the Benromach 10 series is a fantastic event. The ongoing support of Benromach and Chain Reaction Cycles will guarantee participants a great event and day to remember.

The 10 hour format introduced by No Fuss in 2005 has proved immensely popular, attracting both novice and experts to take on the challenge as a team of 2, 3 or 4. No Fuss will also cater for the endurance machines that want to take on the challenge single-handed. Although Frazer Coupland; No Fuss partner did warn “we don’t want folk taking themselves too seriously it’s about having a good time, doing something that we all love”.

Sponsors Benromach who have sponsored the series since 2008 will headline the Three Ten Series. Benromach will provide spot prizes and the opportunity for participants to sample Benromach Traditional Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Commenting on the sponsorship, David Urquhart, Joint Managing Director at Gordon & MacPhail, proprietors of Benromach Distillery says, “It’s great news to hear that the Benromach Three Tens Series will be heading south of the border – we wish the No Fuss team the best of luck. This provides us with a strong opportunity to continuing raising awareness of the Benromach brand with the type of consumer who seeks adventure, challenges the norm and enjoys quality hand crafted products.”
