Maybe to get the numbers to the races, you would have to race one in England, Scotland and Wales to qualify a series win?
To be honest, if you Turn right or go straight on into the lakes at carlisle the distance to Drumlanrig is not that much differant, Plus the roads are better to Drumalanrig that getting into the lakes

All comes down to money, and the fact that a round in Scotland = £loss. Don't get me wrong, I love racing and am prepared to travel (from Hants) to Scotland BUT the last national series round in 2008 at Drumlanrig had a low turnout from 'English/Welsh' riders but even most of those who race SXC didn't seem to turn up either. Even the National Champs at Inners in 2009 was also a low turnout in all categories, again the thinking that being in Scotland would mean more Scottish riders which would therefore balance those 'English/Welsh' riders who didn't travel. This 'balance' however doesn't seem to happen, it's like SXC riders don't want to do a National Series round. Moan all you want, but to make a Scottish round viable requires more people to attend when its on.

Having raced several times at GT and Kirroughtree myself I *had* noticed it. But the BMBS is much bigger, a huge amount more infrastructure to move in, far more people and (for whatever reason) it's simply proved a bit too much this time round. I don't know the full ins and outs of it, hopefully one day there will be a round there cos it would be fantastic.

Ae will be holding the student DH & XC races in March this year

Glentress being the only trail centre in Scotland….

If you look at the visitor numbers you'd be forgiven for thinking it *was* the only trail centre - even Innerleithen 4 miles down the road gets nowhere near the numbers that Glentress manages. And there's the crux of it - it's a perfect place for sponsors to go and advertise/demo but if you tried to close half the trails just so a few hundred people can race on it you'll upset a lot of regular trail riders who just want a day out.

I don't know what they're like now but Forestry Commission have in the past tended to be quite anti-racing as well which lead to the insurance issues.

Are they still builing the new visitor centre/car park there? Cos that would create carnage with all the extra cars/truck etc trying to park up on race day. It's just the logistics of it, not a case of not wanting to hold a race there.
