August 27th – 30th 2010

Open Adventure have teamed up with adidas to present a 4 day non-stop expedition race across Cumbria. The race is packed with challenges for all, and makes a journey through the Lake District.

Teams can expect to traverse the fells by foot, ride down the area’s singletrack on a mountain bike and to paddle across the lakes. Not to mention a few hidden surprises to keep the teams on their toes.

The adidas TERREX adventure race is open to all levels of experience. It will challenge the elite and international adventure race teams and offer shorter courses for novices.

Open Adventure was set up by James Thurlow in 2004 in reaction to the lack Adventure Racing in the North of England (www.openadventure.com). Since then Open Adventure has grown each year attracting some of the best adventure racers across the world and support from the largest brands in Adventure sport. With events running across much of the UK Open Adventure is seen as one of the leading purveyors of Adventure Sport in the UK. With races usually consisting of a combination of mountain biking and running with a few additional surprises such as kayaking, canyoning, or caving.  adidas TERREX is the ultimate range of outdoor athletic apparel, footwear and accessories, helping take you higher, further and faster.

RACE FACTS – 400KM

The race will start with a short prologue on the Thursday evening in Keswick which will be available to all and is FREE to enter. So if you want a piece of the action but can’t commit to the full race why not enter the prologue, it’s certainly not your usual relay. Warmed up from the prologue, the following morning the real adventure begins.

With a distance of 400km for the full event it will be a big challenge to all the top teams, but one that should be achievable for ALL with shortcuts available (approx 200km) for the novice or slower teams we hope everyone will enjoy the drama and excitement to be found in the Lake District.

Good navigation is essential for the race, and you will be provided with detailed maps to follow. The race will include fell running, mountain biking, kayaking, orienteering and a few surprises taking you to those hidden gems. “Attitude is everything, so be prepared for the unexpected”.

I have been a writer for nigh on 20 years, a photographer for 25 years and a mountain biker for 30 years. I have written countless magazine and website features and route guides for the UK mountain bike press, most notably for the esteemed and highly regarded Singletrackworld. Although I am a Lancastrian, I freely admit that West Yorkshire is my favourite place to ride. Rarely a week goes by without me riding and exploring the South Pennines.
