Ever since they moved it to October its lost alot of the buzz i felt it had. Basically because rather than it being end of summer and having a nice vibe – and generally good weather – its been cold and / or wet the last two years, and probably will be again this year.

Please move it back to September, it was so much more enjoyable. I know we can never guarantee the weather in the UK but at least being in September it gave us a better chance of better weather.

Saying that I have entered because I always do it. But that doesn’t mean to say I enjoy it!

After last years mud bath I think I will give it a miss. When was it in September? I thought it was always in October…..

Wasn’t there an informal date swap with SITS about 5-6 years ago?

It was usually last (or penultimate) weekend in September cos it was often my birthday weekend when I was racing it!
In good weather it’s a great event, really nice atmosphere. I remember that last time I did it (as a Pair) we pulled out cos I was ill and it was bloody freezing and wet. 🙁

I reckon even done on the old date the last couple of DtD’s would have been harsh. The last two septembers have been awful.

Not to jinx this year’s event, but last year was the first time we’ve had rain in the 5 years Paul and I have been organizing the event. 2 years ago there was rain all around Thetford, but not a drop in the forest. We’ve had some cold evenings but it’s seems that Joolze always gets the worst of that as she’s not racing around on a bike to keep warm. 😉

Paul (who can’t log in at the moment for some reason) writes:

Yes the first year we did it, it was the last weekend of September, But
now due to the nesting Bird problems we have had for the last 4 years we
have to do the event 1st weekend of October, the weather is often better
in October anyway, As Frank has posted, last year was a wet D2D and the
first in history, even Ken did not have a wet D2D when he was promoting it.

if we did the event in September we would clash with Cheddar, Interbike,
Eurobike, all our sponsors need to be at these events aswell, so we need
    to work with these.

D2D has never done a swap with Pats SITS event, that has always been in
August as long as I have been doing it (from day one)

I have never noticed a drop in the buzz at the event and with more
people wanting to do the event year on year we must be doing something
    right.

Ha, at last Im able to get onto the good old singletrack site, we did a pre ride of this years D2D course on July 7th,it was rather wet, much like last years event, but lets hope thats the wettest lap of the course this year, anyway all those that rode the course really enjoyed it and are looking forward to the event this year, we have few changes in the works for this year. Fat Tony who has been our Compair for D2D, the winter and summer events will be doing his thing again, not sure what he will be dressed as this year, hawthorn lighting will be lighting the event again as well as having a team racing, they have promised some interesting stuff this year.
Lumicycle will be doing the light charging and they will be next to the solo pit and have dedicated charging boards for the solo riders.
there will be more trade stands and Torq will be supplying energy drink as you leave the course plus you will be able to purchase product from them, im also planning on more types of food this year.
Singletrack will be sponsoring the event, Chipps will be riding through the night and Im sure will have the odd beer along the way.
So check out the Thetford web site and get the entry in for the original 12 hr night event. http://www.thetfordmtbracing.com

Sorry to sound negative with my original post. The course and organisation are always fantastic, I guess I just felt that it was more enjoyable with better weather and personally feel September gave us more of a fighting chance for better weather.

How about some kind of large tent / marquee for food / chill out etc? Seems to be if the weather is bad its a nice alternative to huddling in your car or tent in the middle of the night. Put the massage people in there too and create a nice, warm and dry place for participants during the event.

Thats one of the things I am working on right now, Im just getting quotes for hiring in marquees at the moment.

Weather, Can you remeber the last 4 year at Mayhem in June (not this year, thank god) Hmmm and last years SITS. I spent more time in those months cleaning team bikes than I care to remember.

Im sure weather its the last weekend of September or the first weekend of October its not going make a lot of difference to the weather.

Marquees would be a great addition i reckon.

Obviously since the date change there is not much difference.
