The Bikefest Team write…

2008 was another great year for the Kona Bikefests with the Kona Bristol Bikefest being blessed once more with perfect trail and racing conditions followed by an equally good 2nd round of the Kona Cheddar Bikefest towards the end of the season. More than 2500 riders enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the challenging courses at the events and 2009 will carry on in the same way.

Kona Bristol Bikefest
6 – 7th June 2009 – Ashton Court, Bristol

In 2009 the Kona Bristol Bikefest will return once more to the fantastic course in Ashton Court, Bristol. The almost 10km long loop which is loaded with some of the sweetest singletrack the south west has to offer will be the playing field of the 12 hour team/solo endurance race on Saturday the 6th June and will be back the day after with the 6 hour team/solo event and the newly added 3 hour ‘novice’ event. Following on from the successful introduction of the 3 hour event at the 2008 Kona Cheddar Bikefest we decided to add the same concept to the Bristol round.

Both days are aimed at the experienced rider as well as the newcomer. On Saturday we will have solo, pairs and teams of 4 categories. The Sunday race will have the same categories. All team sizes can be entered in the team open, team ‘old gits’ (average age of riders needs to be 40+ years) or single speed category (please note – no single speed category on Sunday). There are obviously mixed teams and pairs in the running as well.  Besides that the 3 hour novice event will have teams of 2-4 and a solo category.

Besides the race action there will also be a great musical line-up, with live music on Saturday night and DJ running from early evening late into the night on Friday and Saturday. On top of that there will be an extended food village and a colourful event village with a broad selection of the latest bikes and kit.

Last years entries pushed in particular the Saturday, to its limit. We are expecting even more riders to join the fun in 2009. So to avoid disappointment make sure that you get your entry in as soon as you can.

NEW for 2009:

After years of trying to find a workable solution to the lack of showers, bike washing facilities and running water we have finally found out and a happy to announce that the 2009 event will feature all of the above. There is also more camping space available. However camping space is still limited so we can only suggest to enter early. Besides that we are introducing the ‘old gits’ category in which the riders must have an average age of 40+ years. And to top it all off we have also finally entered the 21st century and have added online entry to our website.

Kona Cheddar Bikefest
12 – 13th September 2009– Broadway House Caravan park, Cheddar

Over 1000 riders took part in the successful 2nd helping of the new Kona Cheddar Bikefest and enjoyed the reworked course, the great trail conditions, the fantastic camping facilities and the Bikefest typical relaxed atmosphere.

The 2009 event will return at the earlier date of the 12-13th September with an even further reworked course and with an even bigger and better event village setup. We are currently working on a rather substantial extension of the course which will hopefully fall in place for the Sunday races. But no need to worry the basic structure and all the ‘traditional’ Cheddar bits will stay in place but hopefully get a few additions as well.

Saturday will have the 10 hour event with the 5 hour and 3 hour ‘novice’ event following on Sunday.

Don’t forget – The Bikefest Loyalty Gift 2009:

And finally as in the last two years we will be awarding all the keen riders out there with the Bikefest Loyalty gift worth more then £ 25. You are entitled to the gift if you enter the Kona Bristol Bikefest ’09 and the Kona Cheddar Bikefest ’09 of if you enter two races over either of the Bikefest ’09 weekends.

All the details on both events including downloadable entry forms and the new online entry can be found on the updated Bikefest website http://www.bike-fest.com/. Check it out, download your entry form and hopefully see you at the Kona Bikefests in 2009.
