The Stinger 2009

by 0

If this sounds like your thing then the Stinger Adventure Duathlon returns to Newnham Park on Sunday Feb 15. If it’s not your thing then how about entering pairs and doing the bike bit and getting some other mug/friend to do the running for you…

The format:
Begin with a 5k off road run around some fairly undemanding trails in the Newnham Deer Park, with a bit of incline and a couple of river crossings thrown in. Complete the run then it’s time to dump the trainers and hop on your Bike for 4 x 5k laps of a separate Mountain Bike Course around Newnham’s popular trails. With the bike leg finished it’s time to put the trainers back on (maybe not our best ones though as things are gonna get a bit wet and muddy) and tackle the 3k Stinger run through bog, river, mud and whatever else we can find to make things a little harder.

If you manage to finish all this then it’s across the finish line to grab your finishers mug and maybe one of the prizes/trophies for the top 3 in each category.

The race takes place from Newnham Park Shooting Ground which offers a cafe, indoor registration, toilets, water and hard standing parking.

I have been a writer for nigh on 20 years, a photographer for 25 years and a mountain biker for 30 years. I have written countless magazine and website features and route guides for the UK mountain bike press, most notably for the esteemed and highly regarded Singletrackworld. Although I am a Lancastrian, I freely admit that West Yorkshire is my favourite place to ride. Rarely a week goes by without me riding and exploring the South Pennines.
